Let’s be honest. 2020 has been one hell of a year,a year for the history books. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. The stories that we are all hearing and living are unimaginable.
Who would have imagined a time where there is a curfew with NO moving out NO meetings at the cafe NO ladies who lunch NO lazing with friends NO traveling.
If you are in Uganda, you will commiserate with me when I tell you that our national water and sewerage corporation has been going haywire, we have had days and weeks of NO water. Imagine that, the year where water is most crucial because we have to wash our hands hundreds of times a day and we are told NO! I mean what is that?
It has truly been the YEAR OF NO! Even the apocalyptic movies didn’t get it right. We thought they were fiction but mehn, they became reality.
Yes, we are taking stock. This is the 2020 that has been and we are not so sure how 2021 is gonna be but we are still moving on, hoping for the best and working on thriving no matter the situation
Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have – life itself.
Walter Anderson
Now that quote may sound wishy-washy, like it is for a certain few or maybe people really do not understand what you are going through. I can not begin to say that I can even understand what you are going through because this year has thrown us a lot plus the kitchen sink.
I can however say with confidence that how we respond will determine our lives. There is no two ways about. It is what it is. Bob Proctor said. “When you react, you are giving away your power. When you respond, you are staying in control of yourself.”
2020 has been the year of reaction. We were blindsided and it was all we could do to keep our heads up and not drown with the challenges that kept on being thrown at us. The year is coming to an end.
I do not know about you but I am so thankful that it is and we are still here, pushing on. And in the midst of it, we have heard brave tales of communities coming together, people singing at their balconies in Italy.
However 2021 is now on the horizon and we can not deal the same way we have. We need to change the story. We flip the script and change it from NO to designing 2021 as the YEAR OF YES!
There is only one way of doing that………..
BY RESPONDING AND RESPONDING WELL!!!
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
Viktor E. Frankl
It has happened. The story is set. We can not change that. We’ll be talking about 2020 for decades to come…
But what kind of story will you tell?
You have a whole future ahead of you and you need to secure it. You know what you desire for your life. What you want in the different areas of your life. I am sure in the late hours of the night you envision what could be. And that is fantastic because YOU NEED TO DO THAT!!
Why?
We all need to be in a place where we can envision our best lives. How we want it to be, what we want to earn, what impact we want to have on our community and family, where we want to travel to…it could be climb Mt Rwenzori. If so, sign me up because it too is on my list of desires
.You get to choose the story you tell. It’s up to you to decide what you want to focus on.
When?
But when are you, you and you going to do this? The time is NOW. There is no other time. No, it can not be tomorrow because we all know tomorrow never comes. Next week…well there is always another next week. But what we have, what you have is TODAY. The present!!! And it is called that because indeed it is a gift!! THE GIFT OF LIFE!
And this Christmas season, we have a gift for you too. Yes, a GIFT!
Celebrate good times, come on! (Let’s celebrate) Celebrate good times, come on! (Let’s celebrate) There’s a party goin’ on right here A celebration to last throughout the years So bring your good times, and your laughter too We gonna celebrate your party with you
