Let your light shine

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE

As the year draws to a close, we are told so many things by so many people including me. Haha! Yes even me, didn’t I just tell you about visioning and goal setting for 2021. I even went ahead and designed a guide to help you through all that. Just click here to download it. Yes, that underlined sentence. 🙂

But I digress…as I was saying visioning, goalsetting, New Years resolutions. All these things are being said left, right and center. It can get confusing. Believe me, I am speaking from experience, and it wasn’t too pleasant. But what I have learnt is that what is even more important is Being You! Accepting You! Let your light shine!

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ooooh, It’s hard!

And that is not the easiest thing to do. Have you ever noticed that it is easier to accept someone else with all their imperfections but for you, you keep looking at all your flaws, all your imperfections. Everything that you don’t get right. Why do we do that as humans?

Is it humility? If it is that, then is it false humility? Is it fear? But then what are we afraid of? Being ourselves or not being ourselves? It is such a quagmire and I have realized that if we do not deal with this, it dodges our every step, holding us down, wrapping chains that sometimes become so hard to break and inevidently impacts our future and definitely not for the better. We would be wearing a mask, hiding our true selves.

#BeAuthenticallyYou

Being You authentically where you express who you are as you are is the goal. This is the story we need to tell. This is the story we must tell. But before we can tell our stories, we need to embrace our stories. Our stories are a basis of who we are- the past, the present and the future. The good, the great, the bad and the ugly! Embracing your story is embracing your authenticity.

Cindy Trimm stated that “Authenticity is the degree to which one is true to one’s own personality, spirit, character despite external pressures.” Authenticity is not something we have or don’t have. It’s a practice-collection of choices we make everyday. The choice  to show up, be real, be honest, allow our true selves to be seen. It is a daily practice of letting go of who we think we are supposed to be and embracing who we are.

Imagine that. Imagine being you authentically where it doesn’t matter what other people think about you or what they say about you. Having the courage to be imperfect. And I do not say that lightly. I have been called flaky, without focus and my goodness that hurt. Being misunderstood is painful but sometimes we just have to allow to be misunderstood. Not everyone will get us and that is very fine.

This had led me on a journey of discovering myself. I realized that what people called flaky. I called creative. What people called without focus, I called multi-passionate. It was so liberating to realize that there is absolutely nothing wrong with me. I have been created differently hence I think differently, I act differently. Guys, I am different. Yup, I am a multi-passionate creative and I own it!

But you know it just doesn’t end there. It is a journey. Every day, I wake up and say Girl, You is smart, You is kind, You is important. 🙂 Hey, we have to help ourselves…get it !

You speak to yourself. You affirm yourself. That is part of embracing your story. The power and significance of embracing your story is joyfully creating and living your highest purpose. It allows your light to shine and touch others.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

A Return to Love~ Marianne Williamson

  1. This reminds me of a song we used to sing in secondary school… “Arise, awake and shine! Oh boys awake, oh girls awake… awake and face your studies, awake and face your duties… oh read all the time. Let your light to shine in the presence of men, let your light to shine, that they may all see the great God in you”.

    Happy New Year, Patricia. ♥️✨
