Question- Who am I?

Good morning All!! Then again, it may be a good afternoon or good evening to you wherever you are. It’s early morning where I am, and I woke up to a WhatsApp message from a very good friend. She had sent a link to a video which I will be sharing with you.

It was a YouTube video created by InspirationLive and they had Oprah Winfrey share a few tidbits with the world on,” The Potential for Enormous Success”. I was super excited to hear this. As you know, I am a curious girl and I want to learn as much as possible from those who have gone before us.

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

Psalms 37:4

The video starts with Oprah telling us that we all have the potential for enormous success. That gets you so excited, doesn’t it? It did the same to me. But she goes on to say,” For that to happen, there is a price.” And I thought,” Oh goodness, here we go!” She then said for us to be successful, we need to know who we are. I was intrigued.

As you all know, this platform is about embracing your story so you can fulfil your creative potential. So definitely to do that, you need to know who you are. I mean, I have always known that knowing who we are is the foundation but Oprah managed to put it in the simplest of words. So I ask as she asked,” Who are you? Really who are you? And what do you want? I think of myself as I write this question- What do I want?

I know that for me, it’s not just about being successful or leaving a legacy but I could not articulate it until Oprah said,” I want to fulfill the highest, truest expression of myself as a human being.” I thought,” Oh my goodness, that is it!!

Believe me, I know this story and I have been on a journey of discovering myself. You can listen to that here

There are so many facets to who we are, so many chapters in our story and until we read right to the end of the book, we can never truly say we know someone, we can never truly embrace our stories. We can not just pluck out one chapter and say this is me. No, you are the entire book, the entire story!!

The entire story is the highest, truest expression of yourself and it takes time to unfold, slowly by slowly as you understand yourself, accept yourself and move forward in the direction that you have been called to.

Oprah then said for that to happen, we need a vision!! It’s like an author having a vision for a book and then writes a book proposal, understanding where every story goes, every theme, every narrative so as to create an authentic and precise book. This book is then sent off to the editor to get the book in check.

This reminded me of our God who is the author and finisher (editor) of our faith. We are nothing without him. He knows our end from the beginning and says He knew us before we were even born. I thought about all this and realized that the world has great advice out there for us and we should not let it pass us by but we need to keep in mind that,” For in him, all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16”

“Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin, Would look at me with love And watch me rise again? Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea, Would call out through the rain And calm the storm in me? Not because of who I am But because of what you’ve done Not because of what I’ve done But because of who you are.”

It’s not about who we are and what we do but who He is. When we understand that, everything else falls into place. Because we have been called to serve, and to serve with excellence. In doing so, we achieve success that is lasting. We have to understand what success means to us. It is different for each and every one of us. Lifehack has different definitions for it including success is understanding that you control your destiny. We need to make a stand for ourselves, understanding our purpose and say,” This is who I am. This is what I want.” And work towards it.

It will not come easy but slowly by slowly, day by day, we will answer the question, “Who am I?” And we would have built a purposeful brand. But what will your brand be known for? Only you can answer that because it takes you delving deep into your soul and embracing your story, whatever it may be and crafting a brand story that will be unleashed unto this world. In the end, May you be the highest and truest expression of yourself. Because that’s who you are. This is me!

Come on over to the comments section and tell us about yourself. Who are you? Or if you are still on the journey, tell us how the journey is going. We would love to know and connect with you
