Tech and me

Sharing is caring!

If anyone knows me, they know that tech and me have an interesting relationship. Never really gotten the hang of it even if I purport to be a digital entrepreneur. I just need to know the basics and I am good. The intricacies we will learn along the way when I stumble upon something new or realise I need to learn this thing. It’s a conundrum, this tech and me.

I think it is also coz my brother is an IT genius.Like really He is so I have never had to bother learning anything. If I want something, I just whatsapp and voila,it is done!! Haha!! Thanks Brother!!

However now we are in a digital era and thanks to Covid, Africa has been propelled like no other

“When digital transformation is done right, it’s like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, but when done wrong, all you have is a really fast caterpillar.”

George Westerman, MIT Sloan Initiative on the Digital Economy

If someone had told me that I would be working fully from home in 2020, it would not be much of a big deal because I have been working from home since 2010. I can not even imagine working in an office- like one where I have to leave my home to go to. Nop, my office is at home and I must say I love love it. However I would be remiss to add that the way I work now has drastically changed.

For one, people do not have those google eyes when I say I work from home. There is no conversation of how I should get a real job or worse how I should expand my business into a real business. Hello, what do you think I am doing?Two- it is now easier to get work done because well, everyone is now working online.

Technology has changed the way we do business. Now we no longer have physical meetings. It is now online-zoom, google meet- anyone yet tired of all this? We no longer need to go to a venue for a seminar. Nop, it is online- webinar. Business is evolving and we should too. Enters in -Lifestyle Entrepreneur. I was introduced to this a long long time ago but it is recently that I have been aligning and strategising myself and my business to this. There are many people out there doing this by the way- Check them out

What is a Lifestyle Entrepreneur?

The Balance Small business described it as….

A lifestyle entrepreneur decides on the kind of lifestyle they want to enjoy and then builds their business in a way that supports it. It’s different from how other entrepreneurs operate, which is to put the business first and then design their lifestyle to accommodate it.

Lifestyle entrepreneurs put great emphasis on freedom (such as working a particular number of hours or traveling as they see fit) as well as passion. They may want to work only enough to earn a certain income, which in turn supports their lifestyle of choice. Therefore, they may be less focused on growth than other entrepreneurs.

This is exactly me!! Freedom is my top value. I live for it and it is only recently that I realised that. Yeah, it is a journey. Check out my journey here. Another word for lifestyle entrepreneur would be Digital Nomad. I have to be passionate about what I am doing to be able to do it. I am not those people who do things just for the sake of it. No, I am not and I just could not connect with the corporate world because of that. I am also a person who really and I mean really dislikes routine so I need something different happening. This kind of entrepreneurship just ticked all the boxes for me.

Is it easy? No, it is not but it is possible. Being in Africa where data costs are high does make it tricky but we keep hanging in there. Technology has come and it came for me. The girl who doesn’t really like tech is learning it so that I get better at what I do. I am a lifestyle/digital entrepreneur!!

  1. I have always been friends with tech, I might have a blown up our old TV trying to do Lord knows what when I was 9years old, good thing no one was hurt, I have dreamt of going to a tech convention in Japan from when I watched a documentary with kindergarten kids assembling “simple” digital watches….
I am constantly trying to learn what tech has to offer

  2. I am gradually becoming friends with Tech especially since I became a blogger. Tech is sweet but the many curves make me want to go back to my village and hide under a rock????????
