“Music can heal the wounds that medicine can not touch.”
Debasish Mridha
Music has the power to heal our hearts and set us free.-music for the soul. I heard this song the month when my dad passed away. His death left a hole in me. I wrote about it here. I was having difficulty coping with everything. I was away from my family in the United Kingdom for studies. I had flown back for the burial and immediately flew back out.
Everything just seemed surreal. Life was going on as usual for the rest of the world and yet mine had come to a crunching standstill and yet I had to move with the flow. Go for classes, hand in assignments. It just didn’t make sense at all. Nothing made sense at all. Then my sister sent me this song and it helped me through my grief.

Music For the soul
According to Barbara Else, a senior advisor of policy and research at the American Music Therapy Association who was interviewed by Medical News Today said, ”We have such a deep connection to music because it is hard-wired in our brains and bodies. The elements of music -rhythm, melody, etc.- are echoed in our physiology, functioning and being.”
Because of this, music can act as a stress reliever and even reduce pain and anxiety. I can testify to this because whenever I am sick and in pain, I listen to music or even start singing. My friends thought me completely weird but it always worked. It makes you forget. You feel transported to another realm. Even in the book-‘The power of music: Pioneering discoveries in the new science of song’, Elena Mannes explores how music affects different groups of people and how it could play a role in health care.

So if you are ever in a situation and you need to cheer yourself up or simply need to relax, why don’t you listen to some good and inspirational music? Yes, the type of music matters- you are definitely not going to listen to hard rock when you need to calm yourself down. And I don’t see you listening to calm music when you want to psych yourself up.
There are varieties of genres out there. We have the entire music industry to thank– the songwriters, the instrumentalists, the producers, the singers….all these people coming together to create that piece of music that has the power to free you from your bondages. So whenever you are listening to any music, let’s thank God for the creativity that He has shared so willingly that we too may share with the world. Because…that’s who we are. This is me!
