I am passionate about creativity. Mmmhhh, is that it really? I am but what I am really passionate about is people fulfilling their creative potential. I believe that we are all creative. Yes, each and every one of us is creative. And I believe this is true because I too did not believe I was creative. I thought creative people were the ones who could create art out of scrap or see a blade of grass and are inspired to create a masterpiece. I thought to be creative you had to be in the league of Michelangelo, Vincent Van Gogh, Debussy, Walt Disney or Steve Jobs.
“ And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self doubt.”
Sylvia Plath
And here I was unable to knit, crochet or any kind of art and crafts. So I thought maybe I could just promote those who create. And yet there was still that inkling within me that said I was creative. And then I realized that I was creative- I was just creative in a different way. Creativity is imagination, seeing what could be, learning more, generating new ideas. And that means we are all creative, just in different ways, in our own unique capacities. So be creative in your own authentic way.
But why am I now telling you about embracing your creativity through writing? Hahaha!! You are looking at me with those eyes with disbelief, aren’t you? Believe me, I thought the same too. But what is writing? I think it’s just putting into words what you have gone through, what you feel. We all have our own different stories and we owe it to ourselves to share it. You think your story is boring? That no one would want to listen to it?
Imagine a world where Nicholas Sparks didn’t write the story of his wife’s grandparents in “The Notebook” or if Stan Lee didn’t write those Marvel comic books that gave us ,”The Avengers”. You can write a book that is based completely on your story or someone else’s story or it can be plain fiction. But the gist of the matter is You have a story to tell. We all do…
“ If they asked me, I could write a book. About the way you walk & whisper & look I could write a preface on how we met, So the world would never forget.”
I could write a book~ Rogers and Hart
We can write about anything. Though why should we? Well, Imagine the myriad of ways we can better ourselves by ushering in this new creative life into the world. As Chandler Bolt of Self publishing school said, ”We can discover who we are because writing makes us gain perspectives on what really matters to us.‘
We can reignite a passion by writing about that passion, be it dancing, rock climbing or traveling. We would tackle a new challenge because writing gets us out of our comfort zone. And we would be a writer! Yep, we would be a published author. Can you imagine just 1% of the worlds population ever publishes a book? And that would be you. You would be a writer!
That’s amazing!! In the end of this journey, that’s exactly who you would be, who I would be. And we would all say, This is me!
